Governors

The Governing Body at Tilehouse Combined School The purpose of a governing body is to help the school provide the best possible education for its pupils. The governors at Tilehouse school come from many walks of life, some of us are parents who want to have a direct impact on the success of the school, some are professionals who want to use their expertise to support and encourage the community, and others are staff members who care about the standards and achievements, and want to have a managerial involvement. |

We never forget that the head teacher is "the boss", and we are very lucky to have found Janice Freeman, who is full of energy and new ideas. The governors job is a strategic role in school management and planning. We all work as a team and we all have our separate responsibilities, we hope to establish a framework in which all staff can contribute to raising standards. Our role is to monitor the achievements, to help with school improvement planning and to ensure that all pupils are in a secure environment where the surroundings are safe and the standard of care is high. |

As chair of the governing body, I try to
ensure that meetings are run efficiently and all members have equal opportunities to
participate fully in discussions and decision making. It is a rewarding job, which gives
me satisfaction when I can see the school developing in the right direction. I believe I
speak for all of us when I say that the job can be hard, but the rewards can be high.
