 FEBRUARY 2010

Dear Parents,

This half term has flown by and I can’t believe that we are already half way through.

I think we’ll all be glad not to see snow again for quite some time after having such a disrupted start to the term. I’m always reluctant to close the school because I know how difficult it makes it for working parents. However, the health and safety of pupils and staff must come first.

Creative Writing Week

This event was postponed due to the disruption around the bad weather. It will now be the week straight after half term. We have lots of surprises in store for the children to stimulate their creativity!

We will be having an open morning on Friday 26th February when you are welcome to drop in and work alongside your child in class. Alternatively, you could join us at the end of the day to look at the displays and work your children have produced. Please try to come along.

Children’s Centre

As you may be aware Tilehouse School is the location of the new Children’s Centre for Denham. Work will be starting during half term and the centre is being built on the far end of our playground. The centre will be separate from the school but we will of course be maintaining close links with the services available there.

Barnardo’s will be running the centre and they are already providing messy play sessions for toddlers in our art room every Tuesday. This is a really positive step towards making our school the centre of the community.

School Environment Improvements

We have two more building projects starting in March. One involves creating a new outdoor play area for our reception class that is covered with a canopy. This will enable the children to have access to outdoor play in all weathers.

The second is the re-surfacing of the courtyard and the installation of a large bike shed with scooter racks. Bike storage is something we have been hoping to put in place for some time so I know many of the children will be looking forward to using it.

There will be some disruption as a result of these improvements but hopefully they will be kept to a minimum and the result will be well worth it.

PTA

The Christmas fairs and raffle raised £300 so thank you for your support and to all the helpers who manned the stalls.

Our next event is on the 24th February and has a ‘Fantasy Adventure’ inline with our theme for creative writing week. Children can either come dressed as their favourite hero or fantasy character. Tickets will include pizza and a drink for the children. Adults are welcome to stay and bring a bottle for the evening if they wish. Tickets will be £3.50 per child, a maximum of £10 per family and available on the door.

As always if you are available to help it would be greatly appreciated, either decorating the hall beforehand or helping with food and drinks. Please contact the office or a member of the PTA.

Jewellery

Please can I remind you that for safety reasons children should not be wearing hopped earrings for school. They can easily get caught in the playground and ripped from the children’s ears.

Small studs are permitted, your child will be asked to remove any other type of earring or have them taped over for the day.

SATs meeting

There will be a KS2 SATs information evening for parents at 4.30pm on the Tuesday 23rd February. It is mainly for Year 6 parents whose children will be sitting them in May but if you are interested you are welcome to come along.

Class Assemblies

The children will be performing their class assemblies on the following dates. Please join us if you can. All are on Fridays at 9.55am.

5th March                     Year 2

13th March                   Year 5

Governor Vacancies

We still have vacancies on the governing body for Parent Governors. Governors are a body that meet twice a term and help to decide on school policy and improvement. They have an important role in supporting me and the staff in helping to move the school forward.

If you are interested and would like to know more about the role please contact me or talk to one of the other parent governors.

Parent Support Advisor

We have a new parent support advisor in school on Friday’s. If you would like an appointment, please let the school know.  This person can help you with the following:-
